How to Read a Blog
If you’re reading this, stacycats plus is probably the first blog you’ve ever read before. So I’ll start by telling you what a blog is.
Wikipedia defines a blog as: a website for which an individual or a group frequently generates text, photographs, video or audio files, and/or links, typically (but not always) on a daily basis. The term is a shortened form of weblog.
This particular blog will include text, photos and links six to seven days a week. In its first year (2006) it will focus on my self-challenge - to use Joy Immersion therapy to lose over 100 pounds in a year and create a healthy lifestyle to which I can (and will) stick for the rest of my life.
Blogs are designed to be easy to read. There is one major difference between reading a page (such as this) and a blog entry. Blog entries are posted with new entries on top. That is to say that every new entry pushes the last entry down. So, for all intents and purposes, you must read a blog from the bottom of the page upward. That is, unless you are caught up on the entries. In that case, you only read the top - or newest entry.
In some cases, there will be links in the text. You can tell they are links because they are blue and underlined. Also, your mouse pointer may change when you hover over a link. You followed a link to get here. When you click a link to anyplace on the stacycats site, that page will open up in the same window you clicked in. However, if you click on a link that goes to an outside (non-stacycats) site, it will open in a separate window or tab. This is so you can explore the sites I recommend without losing your place at stacycats in the process.
On the top of every page is the banner that tells you that you are at stacycats plus. You can click on that banner from anywhere in the blog area to return to the main page (where the actual blog is). Likewise, if you are visiting the main stacycats site, there will be links to bring you back to the blog readily available. You can also bookmark (or make “favorite”) the main blog (or any other page for that matter) if you think you’d like to come back and visit a lot.
On the right side of the blog you will see a great deal of information. Many of the listings on the sidebar of this blog are those links I mentioned. Note that the entries under “Smile” and “A Little Help” will take you to pages outside of stacycats. They will open in another window or tab as a result.
For a detailed description of the individual links you will see on the sidebar, click here.
In the middle (more to the left) of the main page, you will see the most recent entry to my blog. You can scroll down to read previous entries. You can also press the “comments” link to leave a comment once you are registered. (I welcome your support and comments, so please do!)
So, that’s the basics. I’ve allowed comments on this page, so if you have any remaining questions, please click the “Comments” link and leave them here. I’ll do my best to answer them in a timely manner.
